A straight 20 oz tumbler is one of the easiest shapes for learning full-coverage rhinestoning because the walls stay consistent from top to bottom. This guide shows the project as a visual sequence: blank, mapped, partly covered and finished.
Before: a clean straight tumbler
Start with a compatible, clean and completely dry 20 oz straight tumbler. Remove dust, oils and residue. Protect any area that should remain free of adhesive, including threads, sliding parts and the drinking edge.
Plan your finish
Choose resin rhinestones for lightweight, colourful and budget-friendly coverage, or glass rhinestones for crisp facets and premium brilliance. Confirm your stone size, colour plan and pattern before applying adhesive. Lay out a small sample row to check spacing.
Step 1: mark a straight guide
Use low-tack tape or a removable guide to establish your first vertical or horizontal line. On a full-coverage project, the first rows control the alignment of everything that follows.
Step 2: work in small adhesive sections
Apply only as much adhesive as you can cover before it skins over. Follow the adhesive manufacturer’s safety and curing directions. Keep the layer even and away from the rim and moving parts.
Step 3: place, check and continue
Place stones with a pickup tool, keeping spacing consistent. Pause every few rows and look at the tumbler from several angles. Correct drift while the adhesive is still workable.
Step 4: complete the seam
As the final section approaches the starting line, dry-fit stones before adding more adhesive. Small spacing adjustments made across several rows usually look cleaner than forcing one tight or oversized gap.
After: inspect and cure
Remove stray adhesive as directed by its manufacturer, check for loose or missing stones and allow the full cure time before handling or gifting. The finished tumbler should have even rows, a tidy seam and protected functional areas.
